DAY 1: SURFACE PREP AND DESIGNS

Surface Prep and Foundation Application

Plastic & Masking Tape Surface Preparation:

Begin by learning the essential steps for surface preparation using plastic and masking tape. This includes covering not only the countertop but also the floor area to protect against epoxy spills and overspray. Students will learn how to properly mask areas that should remain untouched, ensuring the epoxy only goes where it's intended and protecting surrounding surfaces for a clean, professional result.

Mid-Morning:
Patching:

Students will master the technique of patching cracks, holes, and imperfections on the countertop surface. This is crucial for ensuring a smooth and even base before applying epoxy, giving the final countertop a flawless finish.

Lunch Break
Afternoon session:

Primer & Metallic Epoxy Application (Spray, Roller, and Squeegee Techniques):

Students will begin by applying primer to the countertop surface, preparing it for epoxy adhesion. After the primer has set, they will dive into the full range of metallic epoxy application techniques:

  • Students will learn how to use a spray gun to apply metallic mica, creating dynamic marble-like effects.
  • This method will teach how to apply epoxy with a roller to create smooth, flowing patterns.
  • Students will use a squeegee to spread epoxy evenly, achieving a sleek, refined look.

Day 2 : FINAL TOUCH UPS , CLEANING AND TOP COATS.

Day 2: Final Touches and Creating Your Own Epoxy Nightstand

  • Morning Session:
  • Remove the masking tape and plastic, then clean any excess epoxy and debris. Sand any drips or imperfections, then wipe the surface with a solvent to ensure it's clean and ready for the top coat.
  • Mid-Morning:

Set up a small area to mix the top coat, focusing on precise mixing for an even application.

  • Pre-Lunch Session:

Learn how to price materials and calculate job costs. We’ll also discuss advertising strategies and how to connect with new clients to grow your epoxy business.

Lunch Break

Afternoon Session:

  • Apply the Top Coat:

Learn how to apply a thin top coat to seal the epoxy and enhance its finish. We will demonstrate three different top coats with varying sheens (matte, satin, and high gloss), so students can choose the right finish for their project.

  • Create Your Epoxy Nightstand:

Using everything learned, students will create their own custom epoxy nightstand, applying the techniques from both days.
